If you are planning your wedding, you know that there are a million and one things you have to think about and do before your wedding day. Things that normally wouldn’t take on too much significance suddenly become very important. And it’s probably safe to say that in your everyday life you don’t give too much thought to slips under dresses or skirts, much less petticoats. But the right undergarments under your gown are crucial to your look. So let’s go over the choices in slips and how to choose the best one for your gown. One of the first choices you’ll need to make is whether to have hoops or no hoops under your dress. If you want hoops, wear a petticoat layer over it so that the hoops don’t show. Consider the stiffness of the hoop material, too. Hoops that are overly rigid can cause trouble if your wedding is outdoors and the weather is windy, and they can be troublesome when you sit down. Naturally, she can’t move too well in the outfit, but she is in a good position to snack on the rainbow-colored, multi layer cake while she waits to be rolled – since walking is pretty much out of the question – down the aisle.

Designer Gail Garrison hails from Denver, CO, and has been sewing and designing clothes since she was six years old. She was taught originally at home, then went to the University of Northern Colorado, where she studied fashion design. Her wedding gown designs can only be described as romantic. She loves working with materials that are soft yet sturdy, such as silk satin, silk organza, and chantilly lace. Her most preferred style are strapless, though she does offer some dresses with straps, and she uses lace to bring delicate and graceful touches to her wedding gowns.
Garrison’s 2010 collection is a perfect example of her style. She loves to style many of her wedding gowns so you’ll have a definite point of demarcation between the bodice and the silhouette, though occasionally she’ll slip into an almost mermaid style dress that looks like the bodice is coming all the way down to the knees, almost like a short white dress, then offers more of a soft flair out from there, rather than a stark, fully mermaid flair.
It also doesn’t hurt her sales that, being a former model, she often exhibits her line with her as one of the models. That’s not a bad way to market ones wares. And they’re reasonably priced, compared to many other wedding dress designers, going between $1,500 and $4,000.

Anyone who has attended an Indian wedding will know what a grand event this is – not only for the bride and groom but for the whole community. Being the bride I wanted to look perfect and stun my numerous guests. With any wedding there is a lot to think about and to prepare for but with an Asian wedding the list is tenfold.
Family and friends are very important for this big day and I could not have organised and planned the wedding without them. My main duty was to ensure I turned up looking beautiful and elegant. Indian wedding dresses are totally different from Western bridal gowns. They are usually typically and traditionally white, however, with Indian bridal gowns the more colourful the better. Sarees are the typical wear and I wanted to keep my outfit as traditional as possible but with a modern edge.
Bridal gowns worn for Indian weddings usually consist of red and gold and are a three piece – the top, long skirt and the shawl which is usually put over one shoulder. I was lucky enough to have my Auntie to help design my dress. The dresses in the shops are gorgeous but I wanted mine to be unique so it was great that I was able to design my own and have my own personal touch to the gown.
My main decision was how bright was I going to go with my outfit? With Indian weddings there are no limits and colour represents different aspects of the marriage. Mostly colour represents emotion and the extravagance of the day. Along with my bright, sophisticated outfit I wanted to make sure that the delicate gold jewellery complimented me and the outfit.
Once I had decided on my outfit and was happy with the design I then had the task of finding the accessories to match. As the day and ceremony is very long I wanted to wear shoes that were of comfort. I know this was being a little sensible but I didn’t want to spend the day in agony. I did want the shoes to still be ones of fashion and to match perfectly with my dress. As the main colour of my dress was red and I had delicate golden embroidery I went for golden platforms. They were open toed and I made sure my nails were beautifully painted and pedicured.
As my dress was fairly simple in design I was able to be quite daring when choosing my bag for the big day. I had my best friend on duty for touching up the make-up but I still wanted to carry some with me just in case there was a major crisis and I needed some immediate rectifying doing! I went for a big clutch bag which was decorated to match my dress.
To complete my look I accessorised my look with bangles which complimented my outfit. I chose a mixture of glass and plastic ones which I brought by the dozen. Some were glittery and the others just plain so that I had a nice mixture of the two. On the day I did lose a few but it is fair to say that my outfit and look was traditional for that of an Indian wedding but I did look unique.
National Wedding Dress Day puts old gowns to good use

The Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) of South Africa recently sponsored National Wedding Dress Day. The event aims to raise funds for the charitable organization by asking women to dig out their old wedding dresses and don them for an hour, according to iol.co.za. Bridesmaids are also requested to wear their dresses again (something they probably swore they’d never do!)
This Friday, December 4, the HSF is asking the women to wear their dresses out and about while shopping or while at work, and asking friends to sponsor them for each hour that they stick it out.
The money from the event is earmarked for a special program that will educate parents and teachers about ways to reduce the chances of heart
disease in young children, the news source reports.
Most brides will love a good reason to put on their wedding dresses again, and former brides-to-be in the U.S. can take inspiration from the event. Consider donating your gown to a charitable organization after your wedding, or selling the dress and giving the money to a cause that you’re passionate about.
Other magnanimous wedding plans include asking guests to donate to a non-profit organization in your name instead of registering for gifts, or offsetting the carbon emissions of your big day.
Why Chelsea Clinton’s Wedding Dress Will Be Oscar de la Renta

Now that Chelsea Clinton has announced that’s she’s engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Marc Mezvinsky, who will design the bridge-to-be’s wedding gown? If family ties have anything to do with it, then all signs point to Oscar de la Renta.
Until Jason Wu came along, Oscar had all but been elected the District’s official dressmaker. De la Renta designed Laura Bush’s 2005 inauguration gown and Jenna Bush Hager’s 2008 wedding dress, and he’s outfitted Nancy Regan too. But it’s a closet full of Oscar that has made Chelsea’s mom, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, one of Hill’s haute dressers. Not only did Hillary select a shimmery gold long-sleeved Oscar gown for the inaugural balls after Bill Clinton’s swearing-in in 1997 (the First Lady turned to de la Renta after receiving less-than-rave reviews for her 1992 inauguration choice: a purple crystal-encrusted Sarah Phillips number) but she also sported a pink and gray embroidered Oscar frock to President Barack Obama’s evening inauguration balls. That was after she wore a royal-blue Oscar outfit for Obama’s daytime swearing-in ceremony. Other notable Oscar getups that Hillary has worn in the spotlight include a teal suit with a pearl choker for her speech at the Democratic National Convention leading up to Bill’s 1996 election and a taupe 1996 Election Night suit. And who could forget her pantsuits on the 2008 campaign trail? They clearly spelled O-D-L-R.
It’s no surprise then that Oscar has become a close Clinton-family friend. In fact, former president Bill Clinton reportedly stayed in de la Renta’s Punta Cana beach house in January 2006, where the ex-POTUS held a meeting with Dominican Republic president Leonel Fernández.
So it won’t be a shock if Chelsea walks down the aisle clad in the designer’s handiwork. In fact, perhaps her de la Renta dress has already been created: when false buzz started to build in May that Chelsea was going to get married on Martha’s Vineyard later in the summer, the gossip mill also churned out a rumor that de la Renta had finished making the former First Daughter’s wedding dress.
But then again, if we’re banking on family history here, maybe Chelsea will pull a fast one and hit the racks. After all, that’s what her mom did in 1975, when she purchased a beige muslin-y, linen Jessica McClintock number at Dillard’s for her wedding to Bill.
